Chiropractic is a primary healthcare profession that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and overall management of conditions that are due to problems with the joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons and nerves of the body, particularly those of the spine.
Chiropractic is a manual therapy that consists of specific spinal manipulation and also manipulation to joints of the extremities and jaw. Chiropractic treatment also consists of soft tissue techniques. These include massage, cross-friction massage, trigger point therapy and active release muscle techniques. Dry-needling, which is a form of acupuncture, is also used, when indicated, to treat muscle and joint problems.
Chiropractors recommend and demonstrate specific exercises and stretches to suit your abilities and the condition you have, they also advise on health and lifestyle changes that will benefit you.
These treatment techniques are designed to improve the function of the joints, reduce irritation on the nerves, relieve pain and reduce muscle spasm. Chiropractic does not involve the use of any drugs or surgery.
Chiropractic is suitable for all age groups, from birth to the very elderly and is also suitable for pregnant women.
